Free Educational Apps to prepare for preschool

While the rest of the world already started school, we’re still waiting and preparing. While looking for things to keep my toddler busy (and me sane) I came across some fun free educational apps that double-up as preschool prep for my son.

All the moms out there are busy posting first day of school photos. And I’m here thinking “just another month… another 12 days… another week…”

Day camp has ended a while ago, and during this “gap time” before school starts, I need to find ways to truly entertain my toddler. At the same time, I like to keep things educational, especially for the “screen time slot.”

These free apps help my son practice some skills he might learn in preschool. You can choose the ones your child is most interested in. M loves the ABC’s so I did include a few of those so that he can learn them better.

One problem I’ve found when looking for free educational apps is the quality. It’s either poor quality, or it costs too much. For some reason children’s apps (especially those for young children) seem to follow this trend.

The Amazon Appstore solved it for me with their Amazon Underground catalog of 100% free apps & games. I found some top notch games and book apps that are perfect for preparing M for preschool – and for reinforcing it once he does start. All of these are totally free via the app, and most would normally cost a few dollars.

Not only is it free, but in-app purchases are free too! So I don’t need to worry about M exploring too much, and downloading add-ons within the app. I just pin the app I allow him to use to the screen and it’s totally free.
