You have some great suggestions here, especially that having a toddler is a normal part of life that doesn't need to be treated as a special occasion for other passengers. De-stressing before/after flight is so key for parents.

As we did with our last flight with my then 15 month old, I think that breaking the rules for snacks and treats is definitely a must to get through on a long flight sometimes. The consequences afterwards are definitely worth your sanity(and everyone else's) during that ride.

I think most people are understanding on a plane about how difficult it can be for the parents. The last time we flew, the airline gave us free snacks and meals. It was awesome! (American Airlines)

In reply to <a href="https://www.momsandcrafters.com/how-to-survive-a-flight-with-a-toddler/#comment-14320">Jennifer Tammy</a>.

I totally agree! And I've also been on both ends. I feel like people are too quick, though, to jump on the moms with toddlers for making noise. My toddler was woken by a group of rowdy teens, who were getting no stares, but when he started crying, people got annoyed! We brought everything we could to keep him calm. At the same time, I feel like most parents already do what they can and have the extra pressure of worrying about the neighbors... (our journey was 24 hours, so a daytime flight wasn't possible)

I totally agree that flights are the perfect time to break some rules, lol, but I personally think parents have a responsibility to do whatever is necessary to make sure everyone else's flight isn't impacted by their toddler. Whether that's by taking a daytime flight (so your child isn't disturbing other's sleep), or bringing the right gear (as you said), or doing everything possible to line up the naps correctly.
I've been on both sides, and everyone feels better when the parents at least make every effort possible.

Whew, I wish I had known all of this when I first took my toddler on a flight. He did ok on the way there (I filled him up with snacks) but on the way back I could not keep him preoccupied which resulted in a cup of water on my lap haha.
