Sharing is caring!

I’d like to believe that the promised summer is actually on the way, so I made these mini sunglasses charms in anticipation…

This craft is one of my favorite I’ve done so far. It was discovered by accident rather than planned out, which is usually the best way for a craft to happen. It might look complicated but it’s actually quite simple. I even shot a video to show you.

Okay, honestly the video is about take seven, but I’m still getting the hang of all the nitty gritty, like angle, lighting, and not blocking what I’m doing so that you can actually see what I’m doing…

These mini sunglasses charms require two materials only – both of them cheap, and easy to stock. You might already have them! Other than that it uses some tools (but those you still have when you finish the craft so they don’t count…)  So they can be made in bulk, at a party, or to distribute among friends.

Supplies for the sunglasses charms:

How to make mini sunglasses charms:

1. Watch this video to see how easy it really is…

2. Using the round nose pliers, form two loops in the center of your wire as shown in the image. Note: don’t make them TOO big as then you’ll have a hard time turning them into sunglasses.

3. Bend back the sides of the glasses using the needle nose or round nose pliers, whichever you’re more comfortable with. At this point, you can use the needle nose pliers to “tweak” the shape and adjust it to be more realistic.

4. Use the round nose pliers to bend over one end at a realistic point. Trim with the wire snippers so that this is a half circle, as in the ear part of a real pair of glasses.

5. Use the round nose pliers to make a complete loop on the other side and trim.

You should have a perfect mini pair of spectacles at this point!

6. This is the tricky part but I promise you – it works! The key is to load the nail polish brush just enough so that you can get the nail polish to pool, but not to drip. Brush it over the lens portion of your sunglasses frames. It might take a few tries to get it to pool over the frame. Watch the video to see how I did it if you’re having trouble with it.

7. Let it dry. At this point you can decide if you want to touch it up with a little bit of extra polish – both on the lenses and around them.

8. String it on your favorite jewelry chain and wear with pride! No one will believe you actually made this!

  1. I have another way you can get the paint on the wire. Take a very small disposable container, pour a tiny bit of nail polish and dip the glasses into the paint. The paint should create a film layer.
