This winter, A got VERY involved with making paper snowflakes, and as the weather warmed up, she had a problem. What next? She approached me with this problem and I suggested that she learn how to make flowers using the same paper folding technique.

But when we sat down to do it, she just couldn’t get it. So I made her some templates. The running joke in our house is that she doesn’t even realize that it’s not so normal for your mom to just design you a template that minute when you can’t figure out a craft. But the good news is, other moms don’t need to, becauese I designed it for you.

Get the easy paper flower folding templates

Most of the templates that I found online using this technique were more complex – more “snowflake style”. I wanted to use the same method but with simpler petals. I figured I’d create a few styles (eight to be exact). Some of them look similar, but when you cut them they’re all different.

Crafting tips are below, but meanwhile, you can get your easy flower paper folding templates here. I decided to offer the basic shape I first designed for A for free, and the full bundle for a few bucks  in my shop, on Etsy, and at TpT.

Different ways to use these easy flower paper folding templates

I assembled my own flowers a few different ways. A liked to just cut them and do nothing with them – and that’s totally fine too! But I like to share some more practical ways to finalize it and turn it into something you can enjoy after you’ve crafted it.

Flat stemmed flowers

Some of my favorites are these “pinwheel” style flowers. To make these, I stacked two cut paper flowers using a brad pin. I then taped it (hot glue works more permanently) to a colorful dowel.

The result is a forward facing flower that is so much fun for display and doesn’t try to look too realistic.

I curled the petals on these to add some drama, and even made some extra cuts on one, showing how you can really play with the template within the provided framework.

A flower bouquet

Another favorite is this stemmed flower that can be arranged more naturally in a vase. It doesn’t try to look real, but it has that gathered vibe.

I used chenille stems to make stems and leaves, and added pony beads to the mix too. For these, I stacked 2-3 flowers, and I played around with curling the petals or leaving them flat.

Flat paper crafts

And finally, I wanted to show a scrapbooky use of the paper flowers. I went ahead and found buttons as the center, and glued them on a trimmed-down scrapbook paper background.

This is a great application for using the easy paper flower folding templates in scrapbook pages, but also as wall art/collages/shadow boxes, greeting cards, and as embellishments for any flat craft.

Tips for using easy paper flower folding templates

There are so many different ways to craft with this as it’s really just a basic template. I like to share ideas beyond what I tried, so that you can take it a few steps further – and because it’s impossible for me to physically try everything that can be done with this!

Adapting for different age groups

For younger kids, you may want to keep it simple. A, my main tester, is five. She really handled the simplest petal shapes in the largest size best.

This does make great cutting practice, as it can get pretty challenging. So go ahead and give them things that are a bit harder to try! My daughter tried it, skipped a few curves and grooves, and it still came out great!

You may need to help finish it for younger kids by separating the petals, if they don’t cut over the parts of the fold they were supposed to.

As for folding these correctly: I showed A how to do it once and she totally got the hang of it. So it’s definitely doable for most kids ages 6+ (she’s a relatively crafty 5.5 year old).

Either way, for younger kids I’d definitely focus on the larger flowers and then give smaller ones as they get more advanced. You can supply them with white glue and markers and they can decorate it and then glue the layers on each other.

For older kids, more advanced art supplies (as I’ll share in a bit), curling petals, and assembling it into stemmed flowers can be a cool finish.

The base flowers – paper, decorating, and more

To make these bright and colorful, I went ahead and printed the templates directly onto colored copy paper. I had the most fun with the post-cutting process. I pulled out automatic ink, easy to use paint markers and had fun adding doodles.

I also played with colored pencils – specifically these super soft oil-based ones which showed up really well on the medium blue paper.

You definitely want to print on regular paper (not cardstock) as it’ll make the folding and cutting process easier.

Some more ideas for decorating the base flowers include:

• Watercolor paints – since you’re using paper, you’ll want to go easy on this and allow for generous dry time. You can do this before cutting on the whole sheet, or after cutting, to make actual flower details.
• Paint sticks are a favorite for younger kids.
• Gel pens are fabulous for finer, more intricate doodles. Good quality gel pens are important as cheaper ones tend to be single-use.
• You can trace the template onto scrapbook paper or other fancy papers too! You really just need to main square template and the single petal. Just trace the square, fold it without the dashed lines, and use that single petal as a template on the final triangle.

There are so many more ways you can craft this, so if you have ideas, just drop a comment!

Playing with different materials

As you can see, I really did completely turn over my craft room pulling out a zillion different craft supplies. I experimented with layering different flower patterns. I really played.

I encourage you to do the same. Try buttons as the centers of stemmed flowers. Use large sequins as centers on flat crafts. Try crafting these with actual paper flower supplies. Pull pom poms into the mix.

There is really so much you can do here, and being creative with it will make it your own!

How to make a paper flower bouquet using easy paper flower folding templates

You’ll need

For the basic folded paper flowers

• The templates – get them  in my shop, on Etsy, and at TpT, printed on (colorful) paper
• A bone folder for crisper folds (optional but recommended)
• Good scissors that have a smallish (and pointed if not working with young kids) blade

For assembling it different ways (all optional/as needed)

• Coloring supplies such as paint markers, colored pencils
• Hot glue gun (adults only) – my recommendations for best hot glue guns
• Tape/double sided tape
• Dowels
• Chenille stems/pipe cleaners
• Pony beads
• Buttons
• Brad pins

Step by Step Photo Tutorial

1. First, if you haven’t yet, print your templates. I used colorful copy paper.

2. Cut it out on the outer solid square.

3. Fold it on the full-width dashed line. A bone folder can help you get a good, sharp crease so that your end project goes smoother.

4. Fold it again on the new full-width crease (the one that went perpendicular to the previous crease.)

5. You have one final dashed line that’ll again fold it into even halves, but this time into triangles. Fold it on that line. At this point, make sure all your folds are nice and sharp.

6. Cut out your petal on the solid line. Make sure to go along your folds as needed, but to leave the center fully connected.

7. If you’ll be placing something through the center, you can snip off a tiny bit of the still-connected corner to make a center hole for later.

8. Open up your flower You’ll see that some flowers will have “grouped” petals – that’s okay. If petals that are meant to be separate are connected, just fix that now with your scissors.

9. To make a stacked flower, cut another size.

10. Decorate your flower! My favorite way is with paint markers, creating random or floral-inspired doodles.

11. Now assemble them as you’d like! If layering flowers, stagger the leaves so that the top layer(s) fill in the gaps on the bottom one.

Each flower is uniquely beautiful – sunflowers never fail to impress with their large, brightly colored round heads, and their stature. They practically shout out that it’s a beautiful day to shine and grow!

This paper sunflower craft is especially beautiful, with complementary colors and a gentle 3D effect that makes it really pop. It would look great as a bulletin board or as fun wall decorations.  It’s mounted on a popsicle stick (optional), so you can even stick it into a pot filled with clay to use as a little kid-made decor.

If you want a more grown-up variety that is properly stemmed (and not flat), or you prefer an SVG format for the template, check out these paper sunflower templates.

Even though the 3-D folded paper looks impressive, it’s still flat enough to use on a card for Mother’s Day or another occasion, especially if it will be hand-delivered.

The purpose of the folds are uniquely to give it some texture and dimension, and that’s what makes this paper sunflower craft for kids so lovely.

This sophisticated design is actually remarkably easy to make. Older children and adults will enjoy the relaxing process and beautiful result, but even a very young crafter should be able to do it with just a little modeling and assistance.

The shapes are fairly simple to cut, and most of the folds are very simple, too – I’ve included instructions to simplify it even further if needed. This makes it an excellent fine motor skills activity and provides a refreshing change from simpler cut and paste designs.

And yes, it’ll look fabulous even if not cut perfectly!

I recommend liquid glue (regular or tacky) for this project. School glue can work as well but won’t be as secure.

Use small dots of glue so that they dry efficiently and so the pieces don’t slide around (this is less of an issue with tacky glue).

If your crafting partners are very young, you can put some glue in a cup and have them use a stick or paintbrush to dab small amounts of glue onto the project. This can work better than squeeze bottles for moderating the amount of glue that comes out.

Get ready to greet the sunshine with this beautiful sunflower paper craft!

What you’ll need

• Construction paper or colored cardstock in two shades of yellow, brown, and green
• Popsicle sticks – you can use green ones OR
• Green paint
• Scissors
• Liquid glue
• Pencil
• Markers (optional)

How to make a paper sunflower craft for kids

1. Get your papers ready! We used two different shades of yellow for the petals, green for the leaf, and brown for the twirl at the center of the flower. We used yellow for the base, too.

Next, cut out the template pieces and trace them onto the colored papers. You’ll need 8 of the larger petals in one color, and 8 of the small petals in a different shade. Cut out all the petals along with a leaf, base, and twirl pattern.

2. Fold each petal cutout in half symmetrically. Gently crease it along the middle, and then unfold it most of the way – so that you can see the full petal shape, but it isn’t lying flat.

3. Take the base cutout and apply 4 drops of glue spaced evenly around the edge (top, bottom, right, and left)

4. Take 4 of the large petals and stick them onto the glue drops. The rounded edge of each petal should overlap the base while the pointed end sticks out.

5. Put four more glue dots in between these petals, and attach the remaining four large petals. They will overlap the first four petals.

6. Create your next layer using the smaller petals, the same way you did the large, overlapping each other. Position them in between the larger petals so that you can still see the tips of the larger petals sticking out.

7. Fold the leaf in half. While it is still folded in half, fold it accordion style at a diagonal angle to the half fold. When you unfold it, the creases will look like veins on the leaf.

Very young crafters can simply fold the leaf in half and unfold it as you did for the petals, if the accordion fold is too difficult.

8. Take the spiral cutout. Roll up the paper, starting from the outer edge.

9. Keep rolling until you reach the center of the spiral. Use a bit of glue to hold it together.

10. Glue the rolled-up spiral to the center of the flower base.

Take a popsicle stick and paint or color it green. Let it dry completely.

11. Glue the sunflower base to the end of the popsicle stick. Glue the leaf to the stick below the flower.

Your paper sunflower craft for kids is complete!

Roses are classic and beautiful, but so short-lived. With these craft paper roses, you can create stunning rose blossoms that practically transcend time to leave a lasting impression! 

Whether you’re a seasoned crafter or have two left hands, you’ll be able to follow these simple steps to create a blooming beauty.

Why craft paper roses, you may ask? 

Besides being fun to make, you can use these in all kinds of ways. They can be artfully arranged on a surface or tablescape to add color and elegance on their own. Or you can use them to embellish another craft – unlike some flower crafts, these are flat on bottom so they can easily be stuck onto any surface you want to decorate.  This can be a picture frame, a gift box, napkin rings or place cards – or both, for a themed table setting!

 The possibilities are endless, and I do hope you share in the comments how you use your roses!

You’ll want to use a stiff paper for this project so the flower holds its shape and the petals curve nicely. My favorite is cardstock, but you can use other heavy craft papers too. I’ve modeled the craft in red, one of the most popular rose colors, but it would work just the same with any color you like. 

Roses naturally come in many colors and shades, and in this case you can invent new ones, too!

What you’ll need

• Colored cardstock or other rigid paper
• Pencil

• Scissors
• Glue – I recommend a good glue gun for this (you can see my best hot glue guns for crafts here), but you can also use something like tacky glue. Just make sure to hold each piece until it sets.
• Markers (optional)
• Template – download and print it at the end of this post

How to make craft paper roses

1. You will need thick craft paper or cardstock for this craft. Print and cut out the template pattern. Trace the pattern on the selected paper and cut out all the shapes.

2. Notice that the shapes have different amounts of petals. Take one that has 5 petals and apply glue along one of the straight edges.

3. Connect the glued side with the straight edge facing it to close the 5-petal cutout. If using liquid glue, hold it in place for a minute to help it set.

4. Use a round pencil or pen to curl the ends of the petals.

5. Repeat steps 2-4 for the other 5-petal cutout.

6. Now, take the cutouts that have 4 and 3 petals. Apply glue along an open edge like we did for the first two cutouts.

7. Connect the glued edge to the opposite edge of each cutout, just like we did for the larger ones.

8. Use your round pen or pencil to curl the round edges of the petals.

9. Prepare the 2-petal cutout by rolling it up and connecting the open ends. For the 1-petal cutouts, just roll up that one petal and glue it closed. Roll one more tightly closed and the other more loosely, as shown.

10. If you’ve finished closing up all of the petal shapes, you are now ready to assemble your paper roses!

11. Put a small amount of glue on the center of one of the sets of 5 petals. Place the other 5-petal shape on top of it. Rotate it so that the petals are not right on top of each other and you can see both sets of petals.

12. Apply a small amount of glue to the center and attach the 4-petal set to that.

13. Next, attach the bigger 3-petal group to the center of the 4 petals.

14. Then glue the smaller 3-petal group to the center of the bigger one.

15. Stick the 2-petal shape to the center of the flower.

Join the two 1-petal pieces together by putting a little glue on the tip of the smaller one and inserting it into the bigger one.

16. Finally, glue the pair of single petals to the inside of the 2-petal set. Allow the glue to dry, and then you can use this rose to embellish another craft or to display on its own!

Tip: if making a fewcraft paper roses to use side by side, make sure you vary it a bit! Not every one should have all the layers.

Sunflowers are so bright, cheerful, and prominent… But did you know that they are also super easy to grow? We planted them from seed this year – let’s see how that goes!

When searching for paper sunflower templates online, I felt like there weren’t any that really gave me that “beautiful mess” that paper sunflowers feature. So I did what creatives do and designed my own…

I hope that I really got that messy vibe – I’m not positive it’s all there – but it’s definitely not the same sterile, even petals that were bothering me. There are a few styles of petal, with imperfect shape. I hope that you love it too! I figure I might try a crepe paper version later down the line (this sunflower template is probably too fine a cut for crepe paper).

To make the center, I experimented with a few styles. I started off testing out a rolled fringe, but didn’t love the look. I moved onto a circle with round ruffles to fold up. I really liked that one and made it in four sizes.

On one, I stacked the four sizes and folded up the flaps.

Then, I designed another center. This replaces the smallest circle and can be cut in a slightly different shade to add dimension. This is my favorite flower.

I folded and distressed the petals on most of the flowers. However, I also played with leaving a flower flat.

It simply looks so much better with the petals distressed! You can still leave it flat for use on flat crafts, such as cards.

Eventually, I added a stem to this one also, but as you can see, the center is still flat:

And while my flowers are somewhat small, you can definitely play with making these in large! Your largest size will be about 11 inches. To make huge flowers, you’ll need a pattern with separate petals.

I also designed a leaf for this paper sunflower template. The leaf is close in size to the sunflower itself, and is designed to be wired up separately.

The leaf template can be scored, debossed, or drawn on. It doesn’t fold up much so you may want to use something like crepe paper to give it more texture. Since this shape is simple enough, it should work with crepe paper. If you do, just skip the veins and stick with the basic shape.

Which paper should you use for paper sunflowers?

The paper that I used is this medium weight card stock from Michaels and that’s what I’d definitely recommend for a good balance of durability and flexibility.

You can use lightweight paper (such as copy paper), however your project will be more fragile. Lightweight paper is easier to distress and add texture to.

Finally, heavy cardstock will give a stiffer appearance and won’t get that wonky all-over-the-place look that sunflowers have (and that this template is designed to mimic).

As I mentioned above, besides for the leaves, I wouldn’t do this with crepe paper as it’s too fine a cut.

Which glue is best your paper sunflower?

I used a hot glue gun to assemble these. However, I can’t begin to tell you how many hours I spent sloppily photoshopping out hot glue strands… so unless you’re patient enough to pick them all out when you’re done, I recommend you use something else where possible.

Hot glue is the most consistent with strongly gluing down all the elements. It also sets in seconds and dries very quickly. However, for many parts, you can use tacky glue or a similar good quality craft glue. Just make sure to hold it in place until it sets.

For the flat elements (such as stacking your sunflower) you can use strong double sided tape.

What you need to make a DIY paper sunflower

Cricut Crafting

• Cricut (I used the Maker 3)
• Scoring wheel (for Maker machines) or Scoring Stylus
• Fine point blade
• LightGrip Mat
• Brayer
• Recommended: spatula and weeding tool

Assembly Materials

• Cardstock in yellow (or any sunflower shade), green, and preferably two shades of brown
• Floral stems
• Glue – a hot glue gun, tacky glue (look for the fast drying variety), or double sided tape can work for some parts
• Floral tape
• A wire cutter
• Flat or chain nose pliers

How to Make a Paper Sunflower

Cricut cutting instructions

1. Open a new project in Design Space. Upload your SVG. Click “ungroup” so that you can edit the elements.

2. Choose the veining on the leaves and the three sunflower layers and change the line type to score.

3. Attach each score layer individually to the base cut that it’s scoring. At this point, if you’d like, you can duplicate the sunflower layers if you want to add extra layers of petals, and make copies of the leaves too. Disable any of the center layers that you’re not using.

4. Send it to your Cricut to cut! I used the medium cardstock setting with more pressure, but the exact setting you’ll need will depend on your machine.

5. Make sure to swap out the fine point blade for the scoring wheel when prompted.

6. When your cut is complete, make sure to carefully remove all your parts from the mat, using caution so you don’t tear off the petals. I recommend using the spatula to help you.

You only need one of the smallest centers – either the flower shaped one or the criss-cross one.

7. If using the criss-cross one, you may want some help from a weeding tool to poke out the holes.

Hand cutting instructions

Print out the PDF file. Carefully cut out each part. Trace it onto the correct colored cardstock and cut out your parts. To create the fold lines for the sunflower, take a ruler and a scoring tool, place your cutout onto a self-healing mat, and score down the center from the tip of the petal to the base. You can create similar score marks on the leaf too by tracing the template.

Assembly instructions

1. If using the criss-cross center, glue it to the center of the smallest ruffle-edged center (the second smallest on the SVG file – you’re not using the smallest).

2. Fold up the ruffles on each of your centers.

3. Using your fingernail to help you, fold each petal roughly in half. It won’t create a perfect fold, but it’ll give it that texture. If your fingernail is cut short, you can use a card or any flat edge.

4. Distress your edges. Curl them up using anything the correct size – such as the back of a paintbrush, the edge of a quilling tool, etc. Curl the petals of the top flower upward, the middle one should be a bit disturbed but mostly flat, and the bottom layer should be curled down.

5. Stack your sunflower! Simply glue the flat centers together. First, glue three layers of petals, then the rest of the center of your flower, and finally, glue the two together. Make sure to stagger each layer so that the petals show through the spaces.

6. It’s time to add a stem! Bend back a little bit (mine is about 1/4 inch) of your wire using pliers. It should be at a 90 degree angle.

7. Thread the stem through the center hole of the two base star-shaped leaves that you cut. Glue the small bent part down. You’ll need to glue the two layers together as well.

8. Place your flower bottom-side up on a flat surface. Glue the stem down on it so that the bent stem faces the flower. Hold it in place (or prop it) until the glue is dry.

9. Curl down the green flower base and distress it.

10. Fold your leaves on the score lines. You may want to outline the veining on the leaves as it won’t fold very distinctly.

11. Glue a floral wire to the back. Wait until this is completely dry before continuing.

12. Bend your leaf back at a large-curved 90-degree angle, so that its wire can be flush against the flower wire, but the leaf will stick out. Start winding your floral tape around the wire. Wind it a few times around the base of the flower to create volume. Keep going down the stem. When you’re ready to attach the leaf, simply hold that wire up against the flower wire and continue taping around both.

Trim the bottom if needed. Your paper sunflower is complete!

Crepe paper flower templates

Crepe paper is an extra special material for using with these free flower templates. Using high quality crepe paper with simple extra touches can get you extremely realistic results.

You can pull apart the crinkles in some spots to get the effect of actual petals.

These tutorials are mostly beginner level, rather than aspirational, so that you can slowly work up towards beautiful results. Finer crepe paper will get you more realistic petal touches.

When I first got into making crepe paper flowers, I stocked up on the following list of items as my “power stash” for this, adding to my repertoire as needed:

A Calla lily is such a simple shape, it’s the perfect choice for starting out. It’s a modern, minimalist choice for flowers in home decor, and comes in more colors than you may realize. Use the template to make your own – you’ll want to keep repeating this one!

Ginger Flower Craft

Did you know that the ginger that you consume is actually the root of a plant with a beautiful flower? Make some of your own. This craft is actually not with a template – but the shape is simple enough that you don’t even need one!

Crepe Paper Roses

We’re getting slightly more realistic here, and a bit more advanced, with some crepe paper roses. These beauties have a more traditional touch and create a bouquet for your formal space that will never die…

Crepe Paper Peony Template

Another more traditional flower, but like a rose with a modern touch, peonies prove that you can make realistic flowers out of paper. I mean, don’t those flowers look real? It’s all about the crepe paper you choose!

Paper is one of the most versatile, inexpensive craft materials as we all know, and paper flowers show how a little clever planning can get fantastic results.

But you don’t need to worry about the planning – I have it done for you with these paper hyacinth flowers!

The idea is really simple – you have a small flower that sits in rows at the top of the stem. You can work harder and make yours more robust or make it sparser – whatever suits your fancy!

Because of its simplicity, paper hyacinth flowers are perfect paper flowers for big kids and beginners. The shape is quite simple to cut out and a little simple folding and rolling is what gives it its vibrancy and character.

Make these in purples, pinks, whites, blues, yellows, and oranges. Look to nature for inspiration when choosing your colors – or just use your imagination!

Of course, you can tweak this template to make it how you like it – variegating the sizes more to mimic nature, tinting the ends for a more textured look, clustering more, smaller flowers.

Supplies you’ll need for this paper flower craft

• Colored paper
• Scissors
• Glue – I like Tacky glue for paper flowers because it’s not too “wet” and it holds faster than school glue but it’s also cheap and easy to use. It doesn’t dry too quickly to correct mistakes.
• Pencil
• Dowel or other round item

How to make paper hyacinth flowers

1. Cut your stem

Cut out a green rectangular piece of paper (6-inch x  2.5 inches). You can also use the rectangle on the template to measure your size.

2. Roll your stem

Roll the green paper into a tight stick. Glue it shut to seal it.

3. Cut your flowers

Cut out the flower shape 7-10 times. Fold it horizontally and vertically to create some petal distinction. Unfold

4. Roll your petals

Use a dowel or similar round item to curl your petals inward. Repeat for all of your flowers.

5. Build your flower

Start gluing your flowers around your stem, starting at the top and moving downward, to create your paper hyacinth flowers.

6. Cut your leaves

Cut out and fold your leaves vertically. The fold simply serves as a “vein” running down the center. It also does help it curve inward a little.

7. Attach your leaves

Attach your leaves to the stem at the base. Repeat, make more paper hyacinth flowers in your favorite colors and gather them in a small jar.

Calla lilies have always been one of my favorite flowers because of their unique single-petal, elegant design.

They were designed for the minimalist!

At the same time, they are so much easier for paper flower makers to assemble and are a fantastic beginner paper flower for that reason. I love, love, love making paper calla lilies. It’s less tedious than other flowers and so pretty.

And yes, they DO come in all different colors.

Try whites, pinks, deep purples like I planted in my garden, yellows, oranges, and more!

And while this calla lily template was assembled in a very bare-bones manner, you CAN do more with it.

Use these artists ink pads to make popular two toned calla lilies.

Use your fingers to pull apart the ribbing on your crepe paper to add some natural curling.

You can even tweak the template and add more of a peak!

This template was designed to be so simple that even younger kids can assemble it, but it’s pretty enough for grown ups too.

This was cut by hand but I DID include an SVG version so that you can use your favorite cutting machine to help you along.

What you need to make crepe paper calla lilies

1. Crepe Papers – I LOVE the quality of Lia Griffith papers.
2. Glue – I like Tacky Glue for this
3. Paper – yellow and white
4. Scissors
5. Pencil
6. Ruler
7. The template (see above)

How to make your calla lilies

1. Cut out your parts

Use the templates to cut out the petal, leaves and stem for the calla lily. The leaves, stem cover and petal should be crepe paper. The stem base should be paper and the stamen can be either.

2. Roll a stem.

Take regular white paper about 4 inches long (or use the measurements on the template and roll it into a stem.

3. Cover the stem.

Take your long green line of crepe paper that you cut from your template. Use it to cover the stem. I recommend putting a line of tacky glue and letting it spread as you roll it onto the core of the stem.

4. Top it off with a stamen.

Next, take the yellow paper strip. Roll it on the tip of the green stick and glue it in place.

5. It’s petal time!

Find your Calla Lily petal. Add a dab of glue to the middle of the petal, and then place the stem on top.

6. Fold it over

Bring the bottom left corner of the petal towards the right of the petal. Glue it so that it’s pointing about 1/3 of the way from the bottom to the top.

7. Reverse and repeat

Mirror the previous step, bringing the bottom right corner of the petal to the left and gluing it in place overlapping the previous corner.

8. Add leaves

Glue the leaves on the stick to finish off the calla lily template assembly.

That’s it! Your calla lily template is fully assembled and ready to enjoy!

Making paper flowers is not only fun and satisfying, but they also make fantastic centerpieces and decor.

I’ve been making them and cutting them by hand, but I find the cutting so tedious. So I decided to give it a try using my Cricut Maker and share with you how to make paper flowers with cricut.

To make these you can use pretty much any recent Cricut cutting machine, as I’ll highlight below. I chose my three favorite styles from Cricut Access and worked with them.

3 types of Cricut paper flowers I’ll be sharing:

1. Rolled paper flowers: These are perfect for those just learning how to make paper flowers with Cricut and are the basis for some more complicated designs. They’re perfect for small embellishments, shadow boxes, and any flat-glued flower decorations. I hope to try these in smaller to turn into jewelry.

You can make these on the Cricut Explore Air 2, Maker, or even the new Cricut Joy. You’ll just be limited with which size you make them on the Joy.

2. Paper Lotus Flower: I accidentally messed up the drawing design on this before I cut but I love how it looks! This starts with a rolled flower base and you add petals. You can make this on any current Cricut cutting machine, however, you may need to make it small for the Joy.

I love that this one lets you add a handmade touch with the marker details. Since I made it in a trio, I used different shades of the same color of fine point pen to add some natural texture. The drawing takes time, so make sure you account for that.

3. Paper Calla Lily: I love the simple, modern shape of Calla lilies. I did find this one a little harder to assemble, and I’m not sure I got it one hundred percent. This flower adds scoring to the mix. You can make this with the Cricut Explore Air 2 with the Scoring Stylus or with the Cricut Maker and the Scoring Wheel (which I used).

What you need to make Cricut paper flowers:

All of these designs are from Cricut Access. You can either subscribe or purchase the designs individually. In the instructions for each, I’ll share how to find the images I used.

• Cricut cutting machine (see compatibility above)
• Fine Point Blade (included with your machine)
• LightGrip (blue) mat (included with your machine)
• Scoring wheel or stylus for the Calla Lily and other Cricut Designs. As a long-time paper crafter, who always manually scored everything, I am simply OBSESSED with the scoring wheel and can’t wait to share more ideas with it!
• Fine Point Pens for the Lotus and other Cricut designs
• Solid core cardstock (I used Cricut Princess, Jewels, and Basics packs)
• Scraper, weeding tool, and spatula from the Basic Tool Set
• For full-sheet papers I find it easier to use the Brayer (or an XL scraper if you have one)
• Quilling tool from the paper tool set. I also used the cutting mat and the edge distresser from this set.
• Glue: I recommend a glue gun so that it bonds quickly, however tacky glue can work for most of these too.

If you like to cut your materials to size first to avoid wasting them (such as I did with the smaller rolled paper flowers) I recommend having the following:

• Knife
• Ruler
• Cutting Mat

Cricut’s Precision Cutting Kit Bundle is perfect for this. The TrueControl knife is easy to use with easily replaceable blades. The ruler is a super cool tool for when you cut along straight edges – like I like to do. It’s stainless steel with a base that holds in place, a generous 18 inches, and even has a marked edge.

I didn’t get the self-healing mat yet, which I regret, but I highly recommend it if nothing else than for the size – it’s perfect for these projects.

How to make rolled paper flowers with Cricut:

1. Setting up your cut:

To find your flowers, click on Images.

You’ll find some of these in the nature category, flowers subcategory, and then filter for 3D flowers.

Or choose “image sets” for your category and search for “flower”. There, you’ll find a few sets with flowers. You can also simply search for “3D flower” on the main image page – you just might need to scroll through more choices.

Add your flowers to your workspace. Change the colors as you’d like.

2. Cutting your flowers:

To avoid wasted material, cut your material to size. To do this, I use the TruControl Knife and Cricut’s 18 inch stainless steel ruler. I regret not getting the Self Healing mat as well as the mat that comes with paper tool set is really meant for smaller work. It’s easiest to measure accurately with a ruler and knife on a flat surface.

I usually cut my material with a half-inch extra error margin.

Make sure that your material is smooth and well-adhered to the mat.

Follow Design Space prompts to load the mat and blade, and cut your flower.

3. Use the weeding tool as needed to remove the wrong parts of your flower. Then use it to lift up the edge and get it started.

Use the spatula to slide it underneath the spiral and remove the rest of the design carefully.

4. Insert the outer edge of your spiral into the slot on the quilling tool.

5. And start rolling your flower! Keep it somewhat tight, and make sure to keep the bottom even.

6. Roll until you reach the center.

If you want you can release your coil a little to loosen it up.

7. Apply glue to the bottom of your coil, and then fold down that flat circle to form a base. Hold it in place until it sets.

8. If you want, you can use your finger and/or something small and round (your quilling tool is perfect for this) to roll out the edges a little and to distress them, to give it a more organic feel.

How to make a Paper Lotus:

1. Set up your images in Design space. If you want to do a few different colors, duplicate your design and change the color of the “draw” layers.

2. It’ll take a while to draw, so go about your day, but pay attention – when your machine stops drawing it’s probably time to switch pens. Design Space will prompt you.

3. Start assembling by rolling your spiral from the outside using the quilling tool, as you did with the rolled flowers.

3. Glue your coil down to the circular base. For this flower, I used a glue gun as the instant bond made it much easier to assemble.

4. Glue the center of the Lotus flower to one of your lily pad bases.

5.Overlap slightly and glue down the slit at the base of the loose petals.

6. Start gluing them around your center. I like to start with the smaller petals and place two opposite each other. Then I work in two more in between each of those. I repeat with the larger petals.

How to make paper flowers with Cricut: the Calla Lily:

This one definitely did not come out as planned. I think that I may have needed to scale up the design a little to get a better result. But it’s still fun, and y’know I’m about the process, not the perfection.

1. Follow the prompts to cut and score. The scoring wheel can be used with the Maker. Insert the wheel with the open gear to the back.

2. Crease the leaf along the score line.

3. If you want you can distress your edges to make it feel more natural.

4. The stem was a little harder to assemble. It’s scored with lots vertical lines, which I figured are to help roll it right, or to fold it small. Glue it shut and hold to set.

5. Roll the yellow center to shape it and then glue it around the top of the stem.

6. If you want you can distress the edges of your petal and roll the point outward. You can color this with watercolors if you want like I did with my watercolor calla lily template.

7. Glue it in place around the stem and hold it till it sets.

What I love most about this crepe paper flower is that it’s so unexpected.

It’s also fun, with the bright red color and green accent that  just me smile and long for the warmer weather and yards full of flowers.

It’s easy to assemble, and a favorite paper flower of mine – you don’t even need a template because it uses such basic shapes!

You can make a bouquet of flowers for birthdays, anniversaries, get well thoughts, or “just because”.

While this is a grown-up paper flower craft, it’s simple enough to do with older kids as well. They’ll appreciate that it’s not babyish and that it looks so real.

With only four simple supplies needed, you’ll love the ease and outcome of this ginger flower craft.

What you need to make these Crepe Paper Ginger Flower Craft:

• Crepe paper
• Green craft paper
• Scissors
• Craft glue

How to make these Crepe Paper Crafts: 

1. Take the green paper and cut out a 4 cm x 12 cm strip. Roll the strip to form a thin straw (if you have it, you can also use a green paper straw for this). Glue it shut.

2. Cut out 12-15 pieces of teardrop-shaped crepe paper – roughly 3 cm long.

3. Cut a 1 cm slit along the middle of the bottom end of the teardrops.

4. Add a little glue to the bottom of one of your tear drops.

5. Wrap that piece of crepe paper around the top of the green straw that you made.

6. Take another teardrop and apply glue to the bottom. Fold it in half and wrap the two split sides around the green pipe on the side, but below the top of your first tear drop. Keep the open end of the teardrop facing up.

7. Take another teardrop but this time attach it to the opposite side of the one you just did. Remember to keep rotating sides, and to place each one at even intervals below the one on before. Continue this pattern until the flower is formed. 

8. Cut leaf shapes from the green crepe paper.

9. Attach the leaves below the ginger flower on the green stem. Make as many of these leaves as you’d like.

Your ginger flower is now complete!

Think only grown-ups can make paper flowers?

Even kids can use this super simple free template to whip up their own floral masterpieces, and then use them to create a paper wreath craft for kids!!

This fun Spring craft is a spinoff of this paper flower wreath tutorial that I shared a while ago! That one is a bit more involved, so I wanted to also share a simpler one. This version is perfect for kids and grown-ups who are short on time.

How to make an easy paper flower wreath:

1. Choose your colors for the flowers and trace the petal patterns on them. For each flower you will need to cut out 5 petals. Cut the slit from the bottom center, halfway through the petal.

If you’re using a Cricut cutting machine to do this, you’ll need to upload the SVG to design space and hide any layers you’re not cutting, duplicate what you want multiples of. Select what you want to be a specific color and set the colors. Because of how this SVG is set up, you won’t see the colors on most of the designs themselves but it’ll cut fine. To see which color it’s set on, select that item. When you choose “Make it” you’ll see it sort your cuts on the right mats.

2. Overlap both sides of the slits and use glue to secure.

3. Cut out a round piece of paper for the flower base. 

4. Attach the straight end of the petal to the round base, keeping the pointy end facing outside the round base. 

Attach all 5 petals somewhat equally around your base.

5. Trace and then cut out the spiral pattern on a contrasting colored paper. 

6. Roll the spiral cutout from its outer end and continue to roll toward the center. Once the roll reaches the center, allow the coil to loosen up a little. Glue it to secure.

7. Glue the rolled paper to the center of your flower.

8. Trace and cut out as many leaves as you’d like from green paper.

9. Time to start gluing those flowers to your wreath base! Glue them one by one, filling up as much of the base as you can comfortably.

10. Glue the leaf cutouts between the flowers to fill the empty spaces on the wreath base.

Attach a hanging mechanism on the back and hang it on a wall! You can thread a string through the center for a more casual, visible look – or you can even attach it with mounting tape straight to the wall!

Add more details if you want to dress it up a bit. Get creative and have fun!
