Don’t you just love the look of candy corns? They are so upbeat, bright, and vivid. They almost want to tell you “today will be a great day.”

In honor of the season of candy corn, I created these free printable candy corn treat boxes for you to enjoy. They work very well with giving repackaged candy corn, but they’re also perfect for other things!  I paired them with M&M’s. Reese’s Pieces would be a perfect match too.

You can also use them with other non-edible small favors. This is a great way to make your Halloween Trick or Treat allergy-friendly!

Making these candy corn treat boxes is simple. You receive a colored print file for the triangle candy corn shaped box, and for the candy corn striped pillow boxes. You also receive template files for each.

WHAT YOU NEED TO ASSEMBLE THE CANDY CORN TREAT BOXES: 

• The printed files (get them above ). Print the candy corn files on card stock. The templates can be on any paper. I recommend NOT scaling to fit your media, as scaling can differ between the printed file and the template, causing them to not align properly.

• Craft knife
• A good ruler (I like to use a metal one).
• A surface for cutting on (as you’ll likely cut through and scratch/cut the surface below). I used a padded mailer when I made it since I didn’t have a cutting mat back then, but now I like to use my self-healing cutting mat. 
• Glue stick or glue lines
• A pair of scissors for rounded corners.

HOW TO ASSEMBLE THE FREE PRINTABLE CANDY CORN TREAT BOXES: 

1. Start by lining up the templates with the printed box, and cutting them out on the solid line. Score it using the back of your knife. You can see the step by step instructions with photographs here (this post focuses on the assembly of these exact boxes.)

2. Here is a cute little graphic that shows you how to assemble the pillow boxes: 

3. For the candy corn shaped box: glue the two long flaps on the sides of the triangle side of the box to the corresponding long/narrow sides of the box (as pictured). Glue that last front flap to the other side to close your box.

4. The three flaps on the top all nest into each other to close your box. Fill it first, then flip it over for a perfect candy corn!

These candy corn treat boxes are so simple to make, and pretty impressive.

P.S. I do apologize for the grainy photography. I photographed them on a rainy day, not realizing how they were coming out. When I went to edit, I tried rephotographing, but then I got my boxes wet. I wanted to get these out to you already, so I didn’t have a chance to re-make them. Regardless, they are very cute 🙂

Once I started, I got carried away…

I began with the pillow boxes as planned.

They are quite cute, with the headlights and tail lights on the outside. One side has a door, the other a stop sign!

But then that inspired me further… 

Why not make an actual bus-shaped printable!?

(Note: this box is pretty small – if you’re looking for something larger, check out my pencil box template)

I had it in mind originally as a display piece or a printable toy, and it still works that way. But as I was designing it, I realized that I can simply turn the back door into a… door!

And voila! It’s a treat box too!

I added wheels with toothpicks so that they can spin and still be a toy. But if you’re looking to cut corners and use it as a treat box, you can definitely just glue on the wheels.

Just like the pillow boxes, the school bus shaped box has all its tail lights in place, with a stop sign on one side and a door on the other. Though I do believe I accidentally made it open the English way (and I don’t even think they have yellow buses there) – whoops!

Pillow boxes are cool because they are super easy to assemble. But the bus box is cool because… well, it’s obvious, isn’t it?

M has been playing with it a lot and driving it up the wall (better than driving me up said wall…) He is currently playing with it and singing “the wheels on the bus” (the inspiration behind this party).

• Tape
• A craft knife
• A metal ruler (or any durable ruler)
• Scissors
• A  surface you don’t mind ruining. I grabbed a padded mailer, but a cutting mat would be perfect too.
• Tacky glue (or any other glue that will hold the cardstock well). When I remade it, I used this glue stick.
• (optional for the bus-shaped box) toothpicks and beads

How to assemble these free printable school bus treat boxes:

As you can see, instructions vary slightly by box. I’ve included some that work for both boxes and then specific instructions for each.

For both school bus treat boxes:

1. Print your files. For each one, you’ll see a black and white template/die cut file and a colored one. Make sure to print it so that the “actual size” option is chosen, and not “fit” so that they will match up.

For the pillow boxes, I did include one file that has the die cut printed on the actual design. This doesn’t look as nice but is definitely easier to assemble.

2. Tape the template on top of the printed page at all four corners.

3. You are going to use the back/dull side of your craft knife to “score” the fold lines – that basically means to crease it so that it’s accurate and folds nicely. Use your ruler as a guide along straight edges.

4. Use the regular/blade side of your knife and the ruler to cut along the straight edges. You can also use your craft knife to cut along the rounded edges, but you may want a pair of scissors to help.

For the pillow school bus treat boxes:

5. Place a thin layer of glue along the smallest fold – the tab.

6. Glue it to the inside of the other side and allow it to dry.

7. Fold the tops in along the curve, with the plain yellow side going first and the side with the headlines going on top.

So that it looks like this:

For the bus-shaped school bus treat boxes:

5. If you’re going to make your wheels actually work like mine, use a toothpick to poke through the black dots where the wheels go.

Do the same with the wheels

6. Fold your box along the score lines. All folds go inward (toward the white side) besides for the front of the bus – the middle crease there folds up.

7. If you’re using the toothpicks for the wheels, find where you poked your holes on the sides of the bus. Test where the opposite-side flap goes, and make sure your holes go through that flap too.

8. Begin gluing your box from the hood. Start with gluing the flaps on one side.

Continue with the other side of the hood, pressing it together from the inside if you need.

And complete your bus by gluing the flap on the bottom to the other side of the bus. Make sure your wheel holes align if relevant. If you’re using this only as a toy, you can glue the back cover/flap shut. Otherwise, leave that open.

9. At this point you’ll be adding your wheels. Either glue them in place. Or, make spinny wheels like I did. Dab a bit of Tacky glue at the end of a toothpick.

Slide on a small bead (a large seed bead is perfect), allowing it to push the glue down.

Slide on your wheel from the other end.

Poke it through your bus.

And finish off with wheel #2, a bit of glue, and a bead. Repeat for the back wheels.

And your school bus treat boxes are ready to roll!

They make perfect favor/treat boxes for a party, or even gift boxes for the bus driver!

This sweet little turtle template doubles as a treat box and can fit a few small-medium sized candies. Give someone you care about a sweet little gift in a personalized box.

Or, you can do what I did – hand it to your three year old as a brand new mom-made toy (I had to quickly photograph it, because M had his little eyes on it, and I couldn’t let him touch it before I had my precious photos taken!!!)

As you can see from the above photos, this turtle template is actually ONE printable that’s reversible! You have two sets of “extremities” that you can glue back to back. I was actually going to reverse it – put the dotted ones with the detailed shell side and the detailed ones with the dotted shell side, but I forgot, and then decided I like it better this way…

While this free printable turtle template might seem complicated, it’s really quite simple to assemble. I colored it using an assortment of STABILO markers.

I used a mix of my good old Point 88, and filled in slightly larger spaces with Pen 68 markers. For even larger areas, I used these. I stick with the Point 88 when I’m going for the slow, therapeutic coloring experience, but when I have a craft to do after, I like mixing it up, with more markers for the larger spaces.

As you can see, on this turtle template coloring page for adults, I didn’t necessarily fill in all the small detail individually. That’s the cool thing about it: you can make it as complex as you want to. Choose to go all in on the detail, or look at the larger shapes as a whole, with some fill pattern to add texture.

• Stuff to color with
• Scissors
• A craft knife
• A cutting mat or something else to protect your surface (I used a padded envelope I had handy!)
• A scoring tool (confession: I used a small crochet hook!!)
• Tape
• Glue stick (I didn’t have any handy, so I used regular white glue, but a glue stick does make more sense)
• Optional: glue lines – these are really the easiest way to assemble the box, since they glue immediately and they last. Otherwise, continue with your glue stick.

How to assemble your turtle template:

1. Color it in!

2. Cut out all the pieces.

3. Use a knife to get to those triangles, and the black slits that run across the long striped side.

4. Score the fold lines. This is where it gets a bit complicated, since I didn’t really leave all of those dashed when I created the coloring page. You’ll see the tabs around the octagon, the side where the octagon meets the striped side, the tab at the end of the striped side, and any other dashed lines you see

5. Fold the sections where you scored. On the dotted section, you’ll be folding alternating mountain and valley folds – the rest are all mountain folds.

6. Match up all the “limbs” of your turtle so that they fit back to back, and glue them together. Skip this step, and just choose whichever set you prefer if you don’t care if your turtle is reversible.

7. If you need to, trim your back to back parts so that they’re totally even (I didn’t cut mine out perfectly, so I did this to avoid the white “overhang”)

8. Insert your limbs into the slots as pictured. Keep in mind which direction you want it – which pattern you want to face where. Bend them into place so that just a little tab sticks through the slit, and the limb juts out at a 90 degree angle.

9. Flip it over and tape the little tabs in place.

10. Flip it back to the other side. Add glue strips to all your tabs: 7 around the octagon, one at the end (right side in this photo) of the striped section, and one at the end of the dotted section.

11. Start assembling your turtle template with the octagon section, one side at a time.

12. Connect the tabs on the striped and the dotted sections to their respective starting points to form a circle.

13. Ensure that your mountain/valley folds are in place (you may need to reinforce them at this point.)

14. Lower your dotted parts – it should connect into a swirl as pictured. Your turtle is now complete and ready to go for a swim! (Not for real! It’s paper! It will dissolve in water…)

Have fun! Hide treats inside or just play with it. You can even fill it with rocks and use it as an adorable paper weight on  your desk.

I love to create simple treat boxes for any event or party I throw together. Pillow boxes are my go-to unless I have another specific shape in mind. They are super easy to assemble so that I can actually make them for a crowd.

These barber shop favor boxes have a little bit of clever highlighting and shadows so that they look more three dimensional than they actually are.

Grab the files for these treat boxes and then print them out on white card stock. I used the Epson Expression  printer to print this batch and I’m loving the rich color that it gives me!

I like to put treat boxes together using tacky glue but if you want it to be a bit more polished and you don’t want to make a mess, glue strips are the way to go. Double sided tape doesn’t seem to be strong enough for the card stock.

To make life easier for you, I created the pillow box print files with the cut and score lines lightly marked on the design, so that you can cut it out easily and accurately, without having to use a separate template, as I’ve done in the past.

I use a good craft knife and a metal ruler to get a clean line on the straight edges, and sharp scissors to cut around the tops and the curves. Make sure to cut on a protected surface, such as a cutting mat.

To score it (mark the fold line so that they fold smoothly), you can either use a scoring tool or the blunt side of a razor knife. I use the dull side of the knife along with my metal ruler for the straight edges. Just be careful not to accidentally use the real side. Don’t space out while doing it – I’ve been there, done that… 😉

You can cut a notch into one side of the closing flaps if you’d like. That makes it easier to open.

I filled it with cheap favors – including some finger lights and strawberry candies. Usually I try to go with the party theme for the filler, but this time I just chose things that were inexpensive. It worked out well as there were enough red, white, and blue flashlights for me to just use those.

I also got these little slide click cameras as I thought that goes with the whole haircut business, and we had a fun instant photo booth (stay tuned for the deets on that) but unfortunately the barber shop favor boxes were too flat for them.

So I ended up just combining them in a bowl with the treat boxes and setting them on the table together.

The overall barber shop party theme was a huge it (I’ve shared the story behind it here. )

The barber shop favor boxes were no exception! M loved it, the guests loved it, and since many guests traveled in a few hours for this “major milestone” party, I was happy that they enjoyed!

Coloring adult coloring pages can be fun, and I do offer some here on the blog. 

But isn’t it more fun when you can make something 3 dimensional and functional?

I kept these relatively simple so that you can use them even if you are giving multiple gifts.  They are small (so that they can fit on a single sheet of paper) and perfect for chocolates, jewelry, magnets, and other trinkets and small gifts.

Bonus tip: if you are giving them to an adult coloring friend, leave it blank and let her color it in! You can even wrap it with a bow tied around a few mini pencils or markers…

I decided to go all out on this one and try a new twist. For one of the boxes, I tried some metallic accents using a gold paint marker. It added a great touch, though, with my toddler’s help, I wasn’t able to be too much of a perfectionist. Tip: test it outside the lines to make sure you have the right flow before coloring your boxes.

For the other, I just went with a fun, floral color scheme using markers for a bold, easy finish.

I think that this is a great way to add a personal touch to a gift! It’s free, easy, and so on-trend now. 

How to assemble your color in gift boxes: 

Assembly is super easy, as I’ve placed the markers directly onto the printed box:

• Print on cardstock (or your box won’t be worth much)
• Cut along the outside solid edge.
• Fold dotted lines inward
• Tape along the two front edges using invisible tape.

Some pro tips:

• For a cleaner fold, you can score using the dull side of a craft knife and a ruler.
• Print on light colored cardstock for a fun alternative. Keep in  mind, some color might show through.
• You can glue it shut using tacky glue if you’d like (it just takes a little longer – but it’s more discreet.)

Kindness begins at home. But “at home” doesn’t just need to mean within family. It can mean among friends and close acquaintances too. If we don’t care for those close to us, who will?

One of my favorite random acts of kindness has always been to surprise someone with a gift – for no reason at all! Yeah, it’s always meaningful to remember a birthday or special event, but it can really make someone’s day to give some something small when they least expect it.

To involve my toddler in this act of kindness, I created these color in gift boxes so that he can have an extra, active part in this hands-on lesson. We will fill it with chocolate and hand it to someone close to us – just because.

Toddlers can color it in, and big kids will be able to cut it out and possibly even put it together! M had a lot of fun with it, and was really proud when it was put together. It’s a great way to involve children, especially those who don’t do much crafting, in an act of kindness that they can learn from.

2. Have your generous child color them in. M is obsessed with cats and dogs so I gave him that one to do.

3. Cut it out along the solid outer edge.

4. Fold it along the dashed lines.

These simple free printable gift boxes are perfect for small gifts. I made them the largest I could on a letter size paper while still keeping them on one sheet. They will generously fit small electronics such as flash drives and jewelry, are great for chocolates, and work as treat boxes too!

I used modern prints and patterns in a bold but neutral blue and yellow combination. It’s fresh and invigorating. I have a habit of veering toward plaids while designing with patterns, and I did it again here! I added a canvas texture to it for interest.

Anyway, I really and truly hope that you like these free printable gift boxes and make good use of them! You can print them as many times as you’d like (as long as it complies with the terms of use), and you can print each box separately, so that if you don’t like one of the prints, you can skip it.

A big change I made on this design from my previous free printables is that I did not add bleed. Bleed basically means that the design actually spills out of the “cut” area a little, so that if you don’t cut it accurately, there are no white lines around it. But that requires you to use a template to cut out the perimeter. So this time you can just use the template to score (instructions to follow) the folded parts, and then cut around the outline. See the step-by-step instructions below.

How to assemble these free printable gift boxes: 

1. Tape the template in place over the print file (note: this image and the next is from my this post., not these gift boxes. I added it here so that you can see exactly what I mean.)

2. Do this step before you cut out your box. SCORE on the dotted lines, using the back of your life. Do this by placing a ruler along the dotted line (to ensure you get a straight, clean line) and press on the template (through to the print layer) with the BACK of a craft knife (the dull side.) This destroys some of the fibers, making it fold nicer.

3. You can now remove the template if you’d like. This is how a scored line looks. It’s creased and easier to bend, but not cut.

4. Cut out your box along the outline (look at your template as a visual guide too. In a few spaces, you need to cut into the box a little to “open up” flaps). You can also do this how I’ve done it other times – leaving your template in place, and cutting it out with a craft knife (see this post.)

Fold the box along the score lines so before you glue it.

5. Glue your box! There are two sets of narrow flaps – those glue to the bottom and sides of your box. Spread tacky glue on the flaps, and hold it in place for a few seconds to ensure that it sets.

Allow your gift boxes to dry completely before using!

I’ve been using pillow boxes ever since I started making jewelry as a means of packaging them in an inexpensive gift box. While originally, I created a template and used that with scrapbook paper, I started making my own designs that go with the shape of the box once I studied graphic design.

I made these free printable Elmo treat boxes to give as treats at M’s party. Instead of giving them out as people were leaving, I put them on a sweet table, along with his cake.

It may have been a mistake (one kid took a few, and another dug into the cake early) but it looked really nice!

I filled it with red (I forgot the flavor) chewy lemon heads to go along, even though the contents really don’t matter. They are pretty small, but if you want to put in a little more, try for some fun-size chocolates, and small prizes. 

I did make these with the same theme as I made his Elmo inspired shirt – with the eyes and the nose only, so that he kind of looks like he’s peeking. 

These Elmo treat boxes are really easy to assemble. I used the template to cut it out (the print file has extra space around to avoid white edges). Then, instead of the template, I used a 7 oz. plastic cup to guide me in creating the curve. 

We did not expect many children to be at the party, so I made only ten. It ended up being a perfect amount. I put out a little extra of the candy for the adults.

Tape your pages together, with the template on top, so that it lines up evenly. Cut out along the solid lines and score along the dotted lines  (make in indent using the back of your knife). You can see more detailed, step by step instructions for cutting and scoring here.

1. Cut out and score your pillow boxes. You can see more detailed, step by step instructions for cutting and scoring here. 

2. Place a little glue or tape on the flap. 

3. Glue to the other side.

4. Fold in the ends. Fold in first the end with the notch (as that makes the inner flap easier to open) and then the one without (which looks nicer.)

Fill ‘er up when you have one side closed, and then close the second side! They are adorable, and versatile, and great for small gifts as well as treats.

When I studied graphic design, one of my favorite segments was creating 3D packaging. While most of my graphic design experience has since been invested into this blog, I still enjoy that angle of it. I used it in my pillow boxes, which I package jewelry in. 

While normally, creating a 3D package like this would require either heavy equipment that cuts and scores (see below – step 6) the box, creating it manually is also an option. Creating it manually will usually require you to carefully line up the print file with the die cut (template), and make sure your design is right on target. I probably will be bringing you more options like that. 

For now, I’ve created this set using scrapbook paper. That means that you can choose your own print, and even print out a set that fits a specific theme, such as this July 4th pack. You can even make it out of your child’s (or your) artwork!

WHAT THIS MILK CARTON TREAT BOX IS GOOD FOR:

I made these with Halloween in mind, but they are good for a lot of things! You can insert larger items by sealing the top after you put it in. Since you’ll be leaving half the top open, smaller items can be inserted afterward.

• Small treats (popcorn, chocolate).
• A stack of cookies or brownies.
• It’s the perfect size for a muffin or cupcake.
• A piece of jewelry, or any small (handmade!) gift.
• Anything else you want!

WHAT YOU NEED TO MAKE THE MILK CARTON TREAT BOX:

• The printed template (default size is letter paper. You can scale it to fit other sizes. The quality might not be the same, but you’ll be able to use it just fine.)
• Scrapbook paper in your choice of prints (Letter size is big enough.) If you want it to be stronger, you can use card stock.
• Craft knife
• A good ruler (I like to use a metal one).
• A surface for cutting on (as you’ll likely cut through and scratch/cut the surface below). I used a padded mailer, or you can use a cutting mat. 
• Glue and invisible tape, double sided tape, or washi tape in a coordinating color. You’ll also want some kind of tape that removes easily, such as washi.
• A pair of scissors (I like to use detail scissors) for corners, and holes. You can use a deep hole punch for the hole.
• For the handle: Wire (plus tools to work with the wire – pliers and wire cutter) or baker’s twine.

HOW TO MAKE THE MILK CARTON TREAT BOX:

1. Tape the template onto your scrapbook paper using a tape that will be easy to remove.

2. Using a ruler to guide you in keeping your edges straight, cut out your template along the solid lines. Make sure your cutting surface is protected.

3. Mind the curves! Use detail scissors or the craft knife to move along them. Use a hole punch, craft knife, or detail scissors to take care of the holes. I simply made an X with the craft knife to make a hole for the wire.

4. Your milk carton treat box is now cut out. It should look like this. The template will separate from the scrapbook paper. 

5. Tape your template back onto the scrapbook paper, making sure it lines up well. 

6. Now use THE BACK OF YOUR KNIFE –  the DULL side, not the SHARP side to “score” box along the dotted lines. Scoring means that you are breaking a layer of the paper fibers, without cutting through. This marks the fold lines, and makes the box assembly easier and neater.

7. Remove the template from the scrapbook paper. Pre-fold along the score lines (this time making sure you fold in the right direction, for the most part) and then unfold.

8. Fold the box as pictured, and tape or glue the little flap in place. I used bright green washi tape just so that you can see clearly where I connected it. You can use invisible tape, tacky glue, double sided tape, or a coordinating color…

9. Fold the shorter sides of the bottom in, and then overlap the two flaps as pictured. Secure into place.

10. If you are using a wire handle, I highly recommend reinforcing the hole with a piece of tape (again, it doesn’t need to be as obvious as the color I used.)

11. If you are making a wire handle, bend it upward as pictured. If you’re using string, make a double knot, big enough to not fit through the hole.

12. Insert your wire or string from the untied/unbent side, from the inside to the outside. 

13. Insert it back in on the other side of the box, from the outside. Reach into the box to bend your wire up again to stop it from coming out, or to double knot your string.

14. Time to seal the top!If you’re putting in something big, make sure that it’s inside at this point. Bend your top as pictured.

15. Seal it halfway (until the center score lines). 

The other half opens and closes just like a milk carton! You can seal it if you want and write in “open here”, or you can leave it unsealed, but closed.

You now have the most adorable milk carton treat box! Time to make a few more!

You can use the template a few times, but after a lot of uses, it might get worn along the score lines. If you plan to make a lot of milk carton treat boxes, you can print out a few copies.
