So here’s the secret to getting it done quickly: you don’t need to create every single graphic from scratch.

Fontbundles.net and Designbundles.net are sister sites that have scores and scores of free and inexpensive graphics, fonts, backgrounds, clipart, hand-drawn elements and more… The cool thing is, that they offer extended licenses at prices you can afford.

So here’s the deal: you can create beautiful DIY wall art for your own home. For that all you need is a personal license.

With the extended license, you can actually sell the products that you make using these fonts and graphics. Extended licenses are typically prohibitively expensive, but Fontbundles.net turns that around, and offers them at affordable prices (and sometimes even free!)

But there’s more: their clipart isn’t, well, clipart-y. They have chalk and watercolor elements that look like true art, because they ARE true art.

The tutorial below was made using the massive Christmas Design bundle, which has everything you need for Christmas DIY wall art, invitations, posters, scrapbook pages, gift tags and cards, and more. Much of what you get in the bundle is good for year-round as well, so you have an enormous value there. To be clear: you get $557 worth of fonts and other design goodies for 94% off the individual prices.

Now on to my tutorial… Here’s the step by step on how to make your own DIY wall art:

What you need to make DIY wall art:

• Your graphic elements – I used the Christmas Design bundle. (You can find the current bundles here.)
• Photoshop
• A printer and paper
• 5 minutes or so…

How to make  your own DIY Wall Art in minutes:

1. Go to Fontbundles.net and get the package, fonts, or elements that best suit your needs.

I used the Christmas design bundle. See which limited-time bundles are live for the best deal and the most options. Download your bundle, and install your fonts.

2. In photoshop go to File -> New and open a new document. You can choose your size. I went with an 8×10 portrait (under the photo presets) to fit into a photo frame. You can choose 8.5×11 (letter – under the US paper presets) if you want to place it in a document frame. Make sure your resolution is set to 300 for good quality, and your color mode is CMYK (so you get accurate colors).

3. Background: Start by choosing a background graphic. Open the background you like in Photoshop. Ctrl+A selects the entire thing, Ctrl+C copies your selection. Go back to your new document and Ctrl+V to paste it.

Ctrl+T will open the resize box around your background image. Hold shift while resizing to keep the proportions in place and not to skew.

4. Graphic elements: The cool thing is, you can have a real artistic effect by using hand-drawn artwork, as opposed to clipart. You have clipart in your bundles as well, in case you want a more fun and carefree look. Open your elments in Photoshop (you can do this by opening the folder and dragging it onto the top menubar)

Transfer it to your wall art document by copying and pasting it the same way you did the background (Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C on the clipart file and then Ctrl V on the wall art file to paste it.) Arrange your graphic elements how you like them.

5. Add your message: Play around with which font works best for you. The Christmas bundle includes some hand drawn text as well, that I used in the other two designs that I created.

Pick a color from your graphic elements to make it fit in.

6. Fine tune: Add elements as needed, play around, move things around, and duplicate until you are totally satisfied.

When you are done, save it (File -> Save as) and print it out!

The Christmas bundle had cool mockup backgrounds as well, so that I can show you how it looks in context, without printing and photographing it (though I like to do that as well.)

While the design in the tutorial is a holiday related design, I decided to make some more DIY wall art to show you how easy it is to create totally different looks from the same bundle.

Plus, you can do things that are totally not seasonal.

The other day, I was chatting with a friend. I was living in my tiny place still and any time my son played with 3 toys it was already a mess.

We were chatting about how there was no point even in cleaning up – a minute later the mess was back. Most moms can relate.

I said to her “We need to think of it like fairy dust – one day it will go away, and so will all the magic.” That really put things into perspective for us both.

Since then, any time I am fed up with the mess, I think back to this message. It rings so true.

I created a meme to go along with it and many moms related. It was extremely popular and was shared many many times. People said they want to print it, hang it on their fridge, or in their homes as a reminder.

So, finally, I created this beautiful nursery or playroom wall art for you to hang and enjoy.

The Fairy Headquarters artwork was hand-illustrated by me and then vectorized/sharpened so that it prints nicely.

I have a confession to make. I almost didn’t offer this one on the blog.

I am very critical of my own work and simply didn’t like it. But after consulting with some fellow artists, I decided to tweak it a bit in Photoshop and offer it anyway.

I wanted to make something nice that you can color in and actually use, and the first thing that came to mind was a sign that you can fill out with serious or humorous kitchen rules. 

Since my kitchen is basically run by my toddler, I consulted with him for this round… and then fixed it to what I really wanted, of course (I’m kidding.)

I used a Prismacolor brush pen in purple for the text. I like how a brush pen gives me a natural line, with artistic variations. It’s almost calligraphic, without actually using calligraphy. I used brush markers also for illustrating these sunflower coloring pages – you can see how it gives lovely tapered ends.

If you are intimidated by the idea of hand-lettering, you can add text in a PDF editor or graphics program before printing. GIMP is a great example of a free graphics program that will let you open and add text on a PDF.

For the rest, I used a combination of Staedtler markers and a gold paint marker. My latest favorite, paint markers are perfect for adding that metallic touch. Most of them are oil based, so they will bleed through. This doesn’t matter for one-sided signs like this, but it’s good to have a paper underneath to catch the bleed. 

I also discovered an amazing coloring trick, which I used on the rim of the “nameplate”. It will simply blow your mind. Do you see how the color blends almost seamlessly? Yep, I did that using regular Staedtler markers – no extra special equipment. You can do it with Sharpies too… Here’s the how-to: 

Isn’t that wonderful? It worked as expected though I need a bit of practice with very light colors such as the yellow. That’s probably also because I went from color to color, instead of just blending two.

Not long ago, I was forced to throw out my old other-brand coffee maker due to infestation. Let’s just say that instant coffee is okay – but just okay! I like my single serve freshly brewed cup of Joe, made just right!

Now back to the iCoffee Opus review. Here is the rundown….

Features of the iCoffee Opus:

• “Dial-a-brew” allows you to choose the cup size that you want in .5 oz. increments. 
• Choose from 4 oz. to 12 oz. cup sizes.
• Large 75 oz. water reservoir.
• Bonus: comes with an iCup reusable cup.
• Comes with a sampler pack of cups too.
• Spinbrew technology steams, spins and stirs the contents of the K-style cup to prevent an acidic aftertaste
• Works with basically every brand of k-style cup, including private label brands. 
• Removable drip tray (so you can fit a larger mug).
• Features energy saver modes, and auto-shutoff that you can control.

Alright, enough with the details!

Here is the rundown of what I thought about the iCoffee Opus…

What I loved about the iCoffee Opus:

• Small footprint, sleek design: with a tiny apartment to deal with, I simply don’t have the space for another huge appliance on my counter top. The iCoffee Opus measures 13 1/8  x 10  x 13 1/8 inches, Which is smaller than similar models that have large water reservoirs. I also appreciate the sleek, modern design of the machine. That’s what inspired me to incorporate it into my decor with a free printable. 

• Spinbrew technology means better taste: this is iCoffee’s specialty: a technology that spins the grounds in the cup, so that you have a smoother taste, and less bitter aftertaste. I’m not the biggest coffee expert, but I did notice that my coffee tasted great, with no acidic aftertaste. 

• Speed of brew: Because of the large water tank, you can brew a few cups in a few minutes. My previous  machine required you to put in a new cup of water, and brew the entire cup. Here, once the water in the tank was heated, it took me under a minute to brew a new cup! That means, that if a few family members are using it, they can make it one after the other without wasting too much time in between.

• Flexible cup sizes – including the physical cup! Coffee is a very individual thing, which is the inspiration behind single-serve coffee makers. That does not just include brew strengths and flavors, but also cup sizes! The iCoffee Opus is virtually dummy-proof when it comes to cup size and operation. A simple turn of the dial changes the brew size. Also, you can fit your favorite travel mug, because the drip tray is removable! Note, that when in use, the drip tray does stay in place nicely.

• Flexibility with brands: One of the key things that pulled me toward the iCoffee Opus is the flexibility it offers with which cups you use. You can use any brand – including their reusable options! I am VERY keen on reusable cups, and only use disposable ones on occasion. So, this was actually a huge drawback that prevented me from replacing my previous brewer. The iCoffee Opus allows you to use their reusable k-cup, included, which can save you lots more on the upkeep costs!

Things I didn’t love as much: 

In an effort to provide you with a well-rounded review, I always share my complete thoughts. However, I want to make it clear, that I would recommend this machine without hesitation. You can continue on to the section of this review titled “the bottom line about the iCoffee Opus review” to read the review round-up and why I think it’s worth buying.

Meanwhile, here are a few things the educated consumer should now before buying:

• Only their reusable cups work: Considering that reusable coffee pods are my favorite feature of the iCoffee Opus, it’s worth mentioning that only their reusable cups work with it. And their cups aren’t among the cheapest. However, a little more research taught me that this is because of the SpinBrew technology, that can’t work with the way other reusable k-cups are made. For me, the consolation is that the coffee maker comes with a free one. So, you DO have instant access to this amazing feature regardless. In homes where many people make coffee consecutively, you may want to invest in another cup or two (you’ll still save, as K-cups are expensive! It’ll just take a few more cups to break even on the investment.)
• Blue LED: Before I even start, I’ll be honest and share that this is DEFINITELY a matter of taste. But I did find the blue LED lights to be a bit much. I’m sure that some of you will find that to be a cool feature, but for me, it just made my coffee look not as good while coming out…

The bottom line about the iCoffee Opus review:

Would I recommend it? Absolutely! 

The iCoffee Opus offers far greater usability than similarly priced models from other brands. Even if you need to invest in more reusable pods, you’ll be saving in the long run, in comparison to purchasing a running supply of disposable k-cups. 

I personally will be sticking to the single cup, as I’m the only coffee drinker here. Regardless, if you don’t want to invest in more, and you have a few drinkers, a quick rinse usually makes it available again for immediate reuse.

I absolutely love this machine, and I find it easy and convenient to use. You get lots of bang for your buck, and I’d definitely give it five stars on value, function, and ease-of-use.

The Pledge of Allegiance is close to my heart. With all that is going on in the country today, this short and sweet pledge reminds us of our origin. It reminds us that our country is built on unity, and that we are one nation INDIVISIBLE. And it seems we need that reminder sometimes.

Let’s pledge our allegiance to the flag this year, and while do that, keep in mind what it means. It means pledging allegiance to a flag that stands for unity. A flag that stands for justice for all. A flag that granted my people freedom of religion at times when other countries wouldn’t.

Unfortunately, parts of our country right now are not standing up to this. The news seems to get more frightening each day. Then there are things you won’t even see in the news that happens. I’ve experienced antisemitism multiple times myself and can give you an account of that.

But each person can make that change for himself! Our country made up of many individuals. If each individual thought of himself as part of the foundation – a foundation held together with unity, we will go back to what our country stands for.

So the next time you recite the Pledge of Allegiance, or look at this wall art hanging in your home, pledge to love your fellow man. Pledge to go back to our roots of unity, tolerance, and justice for all.
