Craft a DIY tassel necklace in lariat or clasp style using this super-easy tutorial! When you’re done, go ahead and try these other DIY necklace ideas that are easy to make.

Soft thread tassels are a fabulous way to add some texture and fiber toย jewelry crafts in a very easy and simple process. You can make them yourself or buy them, but either way, they make fun jewelry!

Today, I’m going to share with you two ways to make a DIY tassel necklace. One has a clasp, and one closes lariat style.
DIY Tassel Necklace Lariat vs. Clasp
A lariat necklace basically means that it’s not fixed and can be readjusted. To accomplish this, you’re not quite fixing it in place. My instructions are to do this by using a toggle-style clasp, and instead of attaching the bar, thread the other half of the chain through it.

I preferred to use the full clasp and just have it look like a Lariat-style necklace. I like doing it this way because I find it easier to style.
You can also just connect the two sides of the chain with a jump ring if it’s large enough to go over the head.

Another idea: leave it open as a long chain with just a tassel on each end. Then, to wear it, tie it together!

Whatever you do, this DIY tassel necklace is SO easy to make, and so fun and easy to wear too.

Watch the YouTube video if you want to make your own tassels:
Supplies needed
- Silky/thread tassels (not the chunky leather kind) – or make your own DIY small thread tassels here.
- Chain – get something pretty!
- Simple toggle clasp
- Decorative Jump Rings
- Jewelry tools: round nose pliers, chain nose pliers, cutters
Process
1. Cut your chain to your desired length. I recommend making this as a long necklace.

2. You want your tassels to hang at different heights. I’m closing mine with a full clasp.
On one end of your chain, attach a jump ring, then one tassel, then the round part of the clasp close.

3. On the other side, attach a jump ring and the tassel, and close. If making a Lariat style, first thread it through the round toggle, then add the tassel and close.

4. Attach the other half of your clasp a few chain links up so that the tassels hang at different heights. Your DIY tassel necklace is complete!
