I love easy-to-make quirky jewelry, and these DIY zipper bracelets are just that! They are simple, quick, and fun to wear, making them a perfect craft for teens and tweens.
These DIY zipper bracelets actually incorporate basic sewing skills, not jewelry making skills. I like featuring jewelry projects that are out-of-the-box and fun, and use non-traditional techniques. So I got myself some colorful zippers and sewed myself some bracelets!
I made these more as bangles, which are slipped over the hand, and not opened and closed. I normally leave the zippers half open, just because I like how they look that way. Play around with them, have fun, and make one in every color of the rainbow!
What you need to make DIY zipper bracelets:

- Cheap, colorful zippers (9″). You can use zippers upcycled from clothing that you are getting rid of too – you just might need to trim it to size.
- Fabric scissors
- Embroidery floss
- Embroidery needle
- (Recommended) Clear or coordinating nail polish
How to make a DIY zipper bracelet:
1. Trim the cloth from your zipper, as close as you can.
2. It should look like this. Since it can fray, I’d advise finishing it (on the outside) with clear or coordinating nail polish.
3. Sew your ends together! Make sure to measure how big you need it. Keep in mind, it will need to slip over your wrist. Start by threading a needle with embroidery floss. Insert it in the spot you need it on one side, in the center where the sides of the zipper connect.
4. Join the two sides together, and stick your needle up through the other side.
They should overlap like this:
5. Wind your string around both sides until it is very secure. (You can do another stitch inside the zipper if you want.) When you are ready to finish it, thread it back through and tie a knot to secure in place.
6. Make sure it’s very secure before trimming your zipper. This is how it looks:
Aren’t these DIY zipper bracelets adorable? I love them! They are a great holiday gift to make and give in bulk! Or, you can make them at a party, since they take only a few minutes, and use inexpensive supplies.
