Summer can get really hot, so why not combine two cooling techniques? Today I’m sharing a super fun watermelon fan paper craft that’s easy to create – no template needed!

The coolest part (ha! No pun intended) of this watermelon paper fan is that all you need to make it is paper. Really! And it just looks so cute!

This version was made with colored copy paper, an easy and cost-effective solution.

Craft these as part of a summer picnic with family. Challenge family members to come up with fresh variations (yes, still punning…)

Make these with kids, tweens, or teens in a summer camp, to take along on outdoor activities.

Craft these at summer birthday parties alongside juicy wedges of actual melon.

What you need to make a watermelon fan paper craft

How to make a watermelon fan from paper

1. Select pink and 2 different shades of green colored craft papers. Trace and cut out a 12 inches long and 3.5 inches wide paper from the pink paper. Trace a 12 inches x 1.5 inches on dark green paper and 12 inches x 1 inch on light green paper. You can make the length longer if you want to. Cut out your parts.

2. Attach the light green colored strip along the edge of the pink paper. Overlap both papers slightly; about 0.5 cm will do.

3. Attach the dark green paper strip along the open end of the light green paper. Again, overlap both papers slightly. Allow the glue to dry completely before proceeding to the next step.

4. Use a black marker to draw seed shapes on the pink paper . Keep the seeds away from the green borders.

5. Carefully create accordion folds on the paper. Try to keep the folds small, neat, and even as much as you can.

6. Hold the pink side of the accordion folded paper together and use a piece clear tape to join that part tightly. This will form a fan shape.

7. Cut out a square shape from cardstock or single-layer cardboard. Ours is 3 inches x 2 inches. Wrap the paper around the narrow end of the fan and then glue the open end of the wrapped paper to secure it. This will be the handle of the paper fan.
