A Free Printable HUMMINGBIRD Coloring Page

The Hummingbird was always my favorite – it’s so small and beautiful! It has this refined, delicate beauty to it, and it’s completed by its graceful hover in the garden. I would spot a hummingbird occasionally growing up in New Jersey, but it never lasted long.

I used gel pens to color this free printable coloring page for adults. Gel pens are inexpensive and quite easy to shade with. They work for larger areas as well as the tiny dots and details on this hummingbird coloring page.

Shading is done by using gradual colors. When you use gel pens, it helps to have a large pack with many shades of each color (the low price point makes that doable.) For most coloring materials, I recommend having at least 24 colors; for gel pens, that number jumps to 50.

Start with your darker colors and blend in by overlapping the lighter colors gradually. You can get beautiful finishes, with the metallics and glitters that you get in a pack of gel pens. The milky tones brighten things up a lot and are great for adding your finishing touches.

When drawing this fun coloring page for adults, I wanted to add a touch of whimsy. Sometimes I like to make my coloring pages more realistic, but with this one I wanted all the dots and doodles that are so therapeutic and relaxing – with a little room for creativity.

To finish it off, I added a border that you can color too. This helps pull your coloring page together. If you want to go all out and have fun, color the background using eye shadow or chalk pastels.

While as I write this, we are experiencing flooding from our “snow storm turned sleet storm”, I know that spring is just around the bend! I look forward to the pretty birds and foliage, the outdoors time – and maybe even a little bit of outdoor coloring!
